Well, I played another 3 table tournament at party poker last night, and again I did pretty well, finishing 2nd!
Initially it was not a good game for me. I was not getting any cards, and the few hands I went in on ended up beat. After 1/2 hour I was down to just over $500 and starting to sweat. I caught an AJ on the big blind and just called. The flop was A7A, and i had trips. Again I smooth called a bet of $150. The turn was a J and I had my full house. Someone bet $200 and I went all in, and actually got 3 callers. That quadrupled me up to just over $2000.
From there on I started doing well. I started playing more agressivley and took several pots with no cards, simply by betting into them like I had something when the table was soft. And when I did have a hand I pushed hard. I eliminated 2 players by waiting to bet and then only smooth calling, when i had a monster hand, only to raise them at the end for all their chips.
By the time we reached the final table, I was chip leader again with over $8000 and my next closest opponent at $6500. I continued to play tight-agressive and it continued to pay off. I took out 2 more players slow playing middle pairs, one that turned into trips on the river, and one that turned into a low straight.
We were finally down to 2 and were almost evenly split at $15,000 each. And it was a battle. A ton of raise-fold, with us not really seeing flops. This went on for a while, but eventually he started eating away at me and my chipstack started to shrink. When i got down to about $5000 I got dealt AQ suited and decided to go all in. He paired Jacks and that was all she wrote.
Still, 3 finishes in the money is encouraging, and I think my strategy change is looking better and better. But I definately need to work on my heads up play.
