Bars 'n cards

If you're like most people who listen to the radio, when the ads come on you either curse at you're radio or you flip the channel. Well if you are one of the few who happen to like ads, you might have heard a few of them talking about poker being played in local bars. I never really cared to check it out because there are so many home games and online poker sites that I play on. Just by chance I was at Maggie O'briens last week and saw people setting up for poker. So, for me, when I hear cards being shuffled it's like an alcoholic hearing the pop of a beer. It was being put on by The Poker Pub, which has a website that lists all the bars and times they play at (www.thepokerpub.com). The action turned out to be fun, but also serious. It wasn't a bunch of loose calling fools because they were all fighting to make it to the final table and take first place. Part of the reason people were playing serious was because even though it costs nothing to play you have a chance to win prizes. That night first place was a nice chip set. Unfortunately I did not walk home with a chip set that night. My pocket J's lost to pocket Q's. Although I lost, I did learn a lesson- when Budweiser tells you to go all in with a pair of J's later you'll be asking Jack Daniels why Budweiser told you that.
