COUNTERFEIT
Sunday, October 03 09:04:15 AM 2004
NO, I am not going to tell you how to counterfeit money, but only how to make money. In Omaha Hi/Lo8 we hear how I got counterfeited and I lost the hand. When I started playing Omaha Hi/Lo8 it was some time before I UNDERSTOOD WHAT COUNTERFEITED CARDS WERE. An easy example is this scenario: You have an ace, two, 9 and a ten in your hand. The flop comes 2,3,king, then you do not have a chance of making a low because your 2 pairs the 2 on the board. Anytime one of the low cards in your hand matches one on the board, that is known as a counterfeited card. The part that is hard to understand by many players is that the 2 can be used by all other players in the hand. You have a pair of 2's that can be used in the high hand but not in the low. It is always nice to have three low cards so as to have what I call a backup card in case I get counterfeited on one of my cards. A word of caution although you can not make a low if the 4 comes on the turn and the 5 on the river, you now can make a wheel (straight). The 2 can be used for the high hand and this situation does happen frequently. Also if a jack came on the turn and the queen on the river you would have an ace high straight. The next important thing to remember to play hands that are double suited. More hands are won by flushes then straights. Any time you make a straight or a flush and there is a pair on the board be careful because this creates a great opportunity for a full house. That majority of Omaha hands are made on the river. If you flop a good hand your best bet is to bet it strong and run your opponents out before they out draw you at the river. You have to remember every time a card is turned up it usually improves someone's hand due the large number of combinations that can be made in Omaha. Slow playing Omaha will get you killed. See you at the poker cemetery.
